Dr. Carol Wharton
Associate Professor of Sociology Dr. Wharton's research combines gender, family, and work issues. For example, she recently published a book, Framing a Domain for Work and Family: A Study of Women in Residential Real Estate Sales Work, about women who sell residential real estate, focusing on how they combine their work and family roles, and the relationship of their gender to their work experiences. She is also interested in how college women and men conceptualize their futures in terms of work and family relationships. For this, she is involved in a longitudinal study of the University of Richmond's entering class from 1994 (the graduating class of 1998), collecting data at regular intervals on their career and family aspirations and their actual life experiences.
