Dr. C. Ray Wingrove
Professor of Sociology, Emeritus
Professor Wingrove graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in Sociology. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and did post doctural studies in Social Gerontology at the University of Southern California and the University of Georgia. Dr. Wingrove was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Georgia from 1964 until he assumed the position of Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Richmond in 1971. He was promoted to Full Professor in 1974 and held the Irving May Chair in Human Relations, 1987-1999. Much of his career was devoted to the field of Social Gerontology, and in recent years, his research focused on older women. His most recent book prior to retirement in 2002 was FROM STUMBLING BLOCKS TO STEPPING STONES co-authored with Dr. Kathleen Slevin and published by New York University Press.
